For Poetry of the Flow, Chang created a large, immersive space covering floor and walls with calligraphically rendered faces in ink on paper. Working with a variety of brushes, he rapidly conjured the faces with expressive lines, evoking the gamut of human emotions. In addition to the usual painting supports, he employed local bed sheets as a base for his painting, finding them to be a common sight, hung outside to dry: accordingly, he hung his outside, too. As an additional performative extension to the exhibition, he held a series of painting workshops.
